Why MP4?

MP4 is the most widely supported video format. It plays in every browser, phone gallery, video editor and smart TV, so a YouTube video saved as MP4 just works.

How to convert YouTube to MP4

Copy the address from your browser bar, or tap Share then Copy link in the YouTube app. Paste it above, press Download, pick MP4 and a quality, then wait for the countdown.

What a YouTube MP4 is like

YouTube MP4s are usually landscape 16:9, which suits TVs and presentations, while Shorts are portrait 9:16.

Before you download

Download only videos you own, that are licensed for reuse, or that you have permission to save. YouTube's terms do not allow downloading otherwise. Live streams, age-restricted and members-only videos cannot be downloaded. Very long videos are limited.

Frequently asked questions

Which MP4 quality should I choose for YouTube videos?

Pick the largest size your phone or screen can show, or a smaller one to save storage and data. Free downloads go up to 720p; a Quick Pass unlocks 1080p and above where YouTube offers it.

Will the YouTube MP4 play on my phone, TV and editing software?

Yes. We use the widely compatible H.264 codec wherever the site provides it. A few very high resolutions use HEVC (H.265), which most modern devices play.

What is the highest YouTube quality available?

Whatever the uploader published, from 144p up to 4K. Higher resolutions are stored as separate video and audio, and we join them into one MP4 for you. Free downloads are capped at 720p, and a Quick Pass unlocks 1080p and above.

Which YouTube videos cannot be downloaded?

Private, members-only, age-restricted, region-blocked videos and live streams or premieres that have not finished.

Can I download a whole YouTube playlist?

No. We download one video per link. Paste several links to download a few at once.

Is it free to use?

Yes. Downloads are free. Free downloads start after a short countdown, and a Quick Pass removes the wait and unlock the highest qualities and larger batches.
